Self-Coach Sunday 77: Turn Complaints Into Requests

Complaining is not attractive. Give it up. Do you enjoy listening to someone complaining? I didn’t think so.

The solution: turn the complaint into a request. Come up with your request. The other person can say yes, no, or counteroffer. When you hear that complaint coming, think of the request you’d like to make. Also, let people know about this action. When they catch you complaining, have them ask YOU what the request is you’d really like to make.

Self-Coach Sunday 65: Under-promise and Over-deliver

Do you need to build a reserve of time? Then under-promise and over-deliver. In order to under-promise, you will need to give yourself twice the amount of time you think you’ll need to get something finished. To over-deliver means you will complete the project ahead of the promised deadline and turn it in early.

This tip alone will help you reduce your stress level. You may also become know as the person who always get things done ahead of schedule. This may even lead to a raise or bonus. This works in every area of our lives from work, to home, to cooking, with kids, you name it. Keep expectations low and surprise them.

Self-Coach Sunday 64: Master The Art Of Delegating

Delegating is a skill we all need. That way you can start doing more of what you love. Here are three skills to help delegate well:

  1. Invest the time and energy to fully train the person to whom you are delegating
  2. Delegate the whole job. Once that person is trained, let them figure out how to get to the end result.
  3. Establish a reporting or check-in system. It can be verbal or written.

Delegating is as easy as one, two, three.

Self-Coach Sunday 63: Strengthen Your Strengths

This is a time to lay down your notion of doing it all and doing everything perfectly. We live in a time where we do not need to do it all. What if you just strengthened your strengths? Really take a look at what you are good at, and focus on or master that. Just delegate the rest.

People who master a strength tend to attract the good life. Doing a lot of things fairly well is not as valuable as doing one thing extremely well. Mastery is an art. Stop trying to be good at everything. Instead, focus on your strengths. Keep track of the things that you don’t like to do or are not your strengths. Rather than trying to do them, find someone else to do them for you.

When asked, successful people will say that they did not achieve success alone. We need support, encouragement, ideas, friendship, love and kindness from others. It is about creating deep and lasting alliances with good people.
