Self-Coach Sunday 43: Forgive In Advance

Being angry and resentful is a huge energy drain. If you want to feel ten pounds lighter, all you need to do is call somebody you hurt or wronged and apologize. Yes, do this even if it wasn’t your fault. Be bold and even call the people who hurt you and forgive them! It takes courage to forgive. Give up the fight now. It is not about who is right or wrong. It is about freeing yourself from the negative energy you are carrying around.

Make a list of people you are holding a grudge about. Get on the phone or start writing letters or emails. Talk in a neutral tone, but don’t forgive someone when you may still have feeling of rancor or resentment.  In that case seek out a coach or therapist. Chances are, the people you’re resenting don’t even remember what the issue was in the first place. Start making amends today!

Self-coach Sunday 42: Make Amends

The best way to start attracting great people into your life is to clean up the relationships you already have. “Maintain what you have before you expand.” How about we start with the relationship with yourself! What are your less than desirable traits? Are you too critical and judgmental of others? Keep in mind that there is nothing attractive about judging others. And, nobody likes to be judged.

People who are judgmental are usually hard on themselves. They hold themselves to a high standard and beat themselves up when they don’t reach it. The cure for this is to forgive yourself first. When you are not so hard on yourself, you will have room in your heart to forgive others too. It really does start with you.

If you find this helpful, list the things you have been carrying around with you or still beating yourself up about. Forgive yourself first! Now go through that list and see whom you can contact now to apologize. In some cases and apology will be enough, in others you may need to make reparations or amends. This is very liberating and can free up an incredible amount of energy. Apologize, make amends, and above all, forgive yourself.

Wellness Coaching Pointer: Let Loose The Berries

Add extra value to every interaction. To do this in business, you need to make raving fans of your customers. Nothing could be better than people fussing in a positive manner about your product to friends and family. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising you can have. The story goes that a grocery store found out that customers wanted to pick their strawberries individually instead of buying them pre-boxed. Once they let loose the berries, sales went up!

How do you embrace this idea personally? How can you enhance and add value to every situation? Smile, acknowledge people, forgive, do a favor and don’t tell anyone you did it, listen profoundly, let someone get ahead of you in line. Get the idea? I challenge you to use your creativity to continue this thinking about enhancing every situation. This is fun – if it is not for you, then don’t do it. What ways can you let loose the berries in your life?
