Self-Coach Sunday 61: Take A Sabbatical

If a weekend or week-long retreat isn’t doing if for you, take a sabbatical. You may be able to negotiate some time off work even if your employer doesn’t offer you a formal sabbatical.

A sabbatical is more than a vacation, it is a time to rest, relax and experiment with new skills ad risk-taking. The idea is to step outside of your day-to-day routine and find out what is most important to you. This is also a good time to reflect on what is going well in your life and what might need to change. Use this time to learn more about yourself. Live outside the box, and don’t worry what others may think. Sometimes we need to get off track to get back on track.

Self-Coach Sunday 59: Find Your Path In Life

Knowing what you want to do in life can be the key to happiness. Those with a plan, vision, purpose or goal will naturally attract people who are interested in going in the same direction.

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What is my purpose in life?
  2. What am I hear to accomplish or learn?
  3. What’s in my soul and heart to do?

Then, write down the answers in the form of a statement.  Ex. my purpose is to learn and love as fully as possible. Or, my purpose is to be a happy traveler. Your purpose does not have to be earth-shattering in scope. Be honest, real and simple.

Self-Coach Sunday 57: Work On A Special Project

If you are looking for ways to discover your special gift or talent, consider working on a project that really lights you up. This can be a home, work or community project that sounds fun and exciting to you. Or, take a course in something that you’ve always wanted to learn. You might also decide to create a project on a more personal side: run a marathon, write a novel, do something to enhance your community.

What special project would you like to start?

If you are not the “start a project type”, then join someone else’s project.  This type of work can be inspiring and evoke from you what it is that you love to do in life. This may just attract a new career, friend or other opportunities.

Self-Coach Sunday 56: Do What You Love

We are surrounded by energy. It makes no sense to go against the current; instead, go with the flow. Going with the flow or current means you will reach your destination a whole lot faster. What is flow for you? Things that come easy to you and that you enjoy. There may be hard work involved, but it doesn’t have to be a struggle. When you are passionate about something there is a potential for joy, even if you are sweating bullets to work toward that goal.

How do you discover what you love? Start doing more of what you love to do in life. Work for a company you are proud of, a job that suits your natural talents, or share time with someone who has like values and goals. Take that path of least resistance. It is your choice to go with the flow or go against the flow. If what you are doing seems difficult or you are dragging your feet, it probably isn’t the right thing for you. Do the things that come naturally and easily and let the good things come to you for a change.

Self-Coach Sunday 55: Discover Your Unique Talent

We all have something that we do or some way we see it that is different or better than anyone else. This is something that may come easy to you, but not easy for someone else. Here is a way to discover your unique talents:

Interview your friends, family and colleagues.

Here are some questions to ask them:

  1. What do you think is my greatest strength?
  2. What is my biggest weakness?
  3. What do you see as my special talent or gift? Something that is effortless and comes naturally to me.
  4. When am I fully expressing this gift of talent?

The next step is to do these things that come easy to you. People who do work that is in line with their natural talents and values are very happy and feel rewarded and fulfilled. Do one thing today that expresses one of your gifts. Then incorporate it into your daily life.
